Range Program

The cadets on this team shoot the Daisy .177 Air rifle from a distence of 10 metres.
The cadets are trained in:

  • Proper firearms handling
  • Competition shooting

For competition shooting a team is made up of 5 shooter (2 of which must be 14 yrs old or younger).  Each shooter gets 5 minutes to sight in their rifle (unlimited rounds) and 20 minutes to shoot 20 rounds at 20 bulls.  Each bull is worth 10 points and there are 10 bulls per target.  The highest possible score per target is 100 points.

Along with each shooter, there can be 1 cadet spotter.  The spotters job is to watch and make sure that:

  • the shooter is firing at the proper target/bull.
  • no one else has fired at the shooters target.
  • zero in the shooter to the bull for more accuracy
  • fix any minor problems that the shooter may encounter.

The Cadets try-out for the team by shooting on a regular basis from about October to January. The team is the chosen based on:
  • Attendance on Wednesday nights.
  • Attendance at Range Practices.
  • Number of targets shot and the average acheived
  • Attitude/Dress and deportment at all levels of the cadet program.

After the team has been chosen the cadets that did not make the team will continue to shoot recreationally. This allows the cadets to better their skills and increase their chances of making the team next year.

The province is split into 4 zones and the units in those zones compete against each other with the top 12 teams going to the Provincial Competition. The winners of the Provincial match go on to the Nationals which are held in a different Canadian city every year.

Along with the winning team, a composite team is made up of 5 other shooters from other provincial teams.
